THE BEACH FILLS UP MY TOES

the beach fills up my toes
the sunball slowly goes
the clouds a-pinken sweetly
the sea-breeze wheezy blows
friendships built on sand
grains and granules and
seashell shards and sweating beercans
cement the new-formed band
thoughts want to be heard
but don’t support the words
tumbled mumbled sentences
like broken-throated birds
the eyes of night alive
the darkness is a beauty
we dig and dive and stretch and strive
like seedlings we get rooty
