i had a vision to write a story by talking into a dictaphone and then transcribing it. the plan was to take my microphone and walk up the hill to the town, and dictate everything that happened along the way. then i transcribed all my minutae observations and cleaned it up (and fictionalised it). at the centre of the story there is no centre. the character has no character. he is almost completely external. people have told me that something is missing in the story. i think that’s the point. i’m glad that people were frustrated by his journey. his insides were missing.
