my journal from this time is also called MEXICO:
there is a chronology to the rolling, snowballing stone of mexico in my life. it took on an urgency, an importance that no place has given me before or since. my trip to mexico was of a solid substance, an inevitable, unavoidable passage. it started when i stole a book in a hostel in china… mexico was coming at me like a fucking freight train. i could see its wheels screaming down the track, smell its smokestack firing in the night. it was coming straight out of the past, it was driving through my chest, roaring out behind me. i could see mexico, in past present and future…
